Whether you're brand new to gaming or just new to the Nintendo DS range, there's a Nintendo DS system for you. All systems in the range share distinctive and groundbreaking characteristics, and once you're familiar with these, choosing which individual Nintendo DS system is right for you should be a cinch!

Gaming on the go
Nintendo DS systems are designed to be played wherever and whenever you like. They are lightweight, robust and portable - easy to slip into a pocket or bag or just to hold in front of you in the living room. The system battery can be charged up via a power point and will last up to 19 hours depending on the system and the settings you choose.

It's all under control

Dual screens
The original Nintendo DS was the first console to feature what have become the hallmarks of all the systems: namely, Dual Screens and Touch Screen technology. The two screens of the console enhance your gaming experience by allowing different information and graphics to be displayed at the same time for clearer and smoother gameplay. When an animation (cut-scene) is played on both screens the effect is truly cinematic, drawing you into the story in an unexpected way.

Touch Screen
Complementing this is the Touch Screen feature. The lower screen on a Nintendo DS system can be manipulated directly by touch - generally using the DS stylus, which is included with your system. This leads to intuitive and innovative gameplay - whether it's writing answers directly on the screen, tapping along to a rhythm or furiously fending off foes!

As well as Touch Screen control, Nintendo DS systems also include a digital +Control Pad and 8 action buttons, catering for every possible play style.

Parental Advice
Nintendo provides a section entirely dedicated to parents that deals with issues including game age ratings, answers frequently-asked questions and keeps you updated on all parent-related news. You can also view our clear and informative Nintendo DSi video tutorials on various issues including Parental Controls and how to get set up in the first place!

Games galore
Nintendo DS games come in two forms - either as small Game Cards you place directly into the system or, if you have a Nintendo DSi or DSi XL, also as downloads from the Nintendo DSi Shop. There are hundreds of games to choose from, ranging from puzzle games to sports titles, epic adventure games to musical challenges - there really is something for everyone! Check out our games section for a look at the latest titles!

Microphone and Stereo Sound
All systems feature a microphone port, allowing you to communicate with your friends in selected games, as well as interact with the game environment in brand-new ways! You can also immerse yourself in a world of atmospheric sound effects and vibrant music via the built-in stereo speakers and headphone socket for private play.

Individual taste
While all Nintendo DS systems share these distinctive features, they all have their own individual characteristics as well. You can take a closer look at what each system offers by choosing the system of your choice from the Nintendo DS family page here. You can also do a straight comparison of technical specifications here.

A gaming community
Many games are single-player experiences and Nintendo DS games are no exception. However, there are also scores of titles that offer the option of playing with other people and sharing the fun. There are several ways you can do this and all the information, including instructional videos, can be found at our Get Connected page.

The newly expanded DSi is clearly targeted at older users with its sober colours, much larger screen, fatter stylus and wider viewing angle, but even youngsters won't mind the extra bulk in exchange for a bigger and brighter playing surface. Nintendo...

When it comes to electronics, smaller is usually better. Everything, from refrigerators to hard drives, have gradually shrunk as time went on -- the two main benefits being increased efficiency and reduced cost. Think about the first computer: it literally filled an entire room and offered a fraction of the computing power found in current systems. Nintendo is an expert in the area of miniaturisation, especially when it comes to their handhelds. They resized and shrunk the original Game Boy...

Bad High price for a late redesign, despite larger dimensions there’s no GBA support, camera resolution hasn’t been improved from the original DSi whatsoever.
Bottom line Nintendo’s extra large handheld bucks its predecessors’ smaller, sleeker designs in light of a heftier frame and wider screen, but is it worth its equally sizable price tag -- especially with the newly announced 3DS on the horizon?...
